TRAINING PLANS

Our training sessions are split into pace groups to enable runners to train with others of similar ability.

For the system to work we encourage members to run in the appropriate group for their ability level. This ensures that everyone is appropriately challenged during their training, and receives the right level of session to help with their running development. Appropriate time ranges for a 10k relative to each group are on this page, to help runners choose a group that is right for them.

Prospective members are more than welcome to join any of our training groups to get a feel for the club before deciding whether to sign up. Visit our Why Penny Lane Striders? page to meet some of our runners, find out why they joined, and how they have benefited from being part of the club.

Meet at Garston Leisure Centre unless stated otherwise.

Head torch run
Bring a head torch! They are quite cheap, but if you don't want invest just yet, let us know so we can see about a loan. Also, trail shoes or old shoes. Spare shoes for the way home!

Cross Country
Ideally XC shoes e.g. spikes, or your grippiest trail/fell shoes (e.g. with rubber 'studs' or lugs which stick out)

Runs outside Liverpool
Please contact the run leader or Anne on pennylanestrider+orc@gmail.com so that we have numbers and can alert you to last minute changes

Car share
Do so when possible: saves money and saves the planet :) (post on the forum, FB or ask Anne)

Full kit
Full waterproofs, spare long sleeved top, hat, gloves, water, food, whistle, survival bag or emergency blanket, mobile phone with What3Words app installed on it). Leader decides on the day if conditions allow for reduced kit.

Last minute cancellations
We aim to avoid this but the pool of leaders is much smaller for off-road and we may not be able to find an alternative leader at short notice. Off-road running is also more likely to cancel due to adverse weather conditions that are not an issue on the road (e.g. high winds in woodlands). Before attending an off-road run you should check the forum (or Facebook) to make sure it is going ahead.

Any questions?
Just ask Anne on pennylanestriders+orc@gmail.com
